Vittorio Cambone

We are very sad to hear that Vittorio passed away on Saturday evening in Oakville Hospital, Canada, at the age of 85.

Vittorio was born in Mortale, the son of Pietro Cambone and Francesca Forte, and moved to Canada many years ago.  He set up a successful construction company with his brother, Augusto, and was well respected in the Oakville area.

His love for Mortale and Casalattico, and his interest in his roots and family history, were strong and he always enjoyed telling us many detailed stories of the past.  On the family research side, I am grateful to him for the hours he spent identifying people in old photos, telling me how people were related and recounting many interesting tales of Mortalese history.

We send our heartfelt condolences to his wife, Livia, children, Franca, Orienta and Vincenzo, and to his brother, Augusto, and all their families.

Monforte Viennoiserie launches soon

I’m sure that the whole of the extended Forte family will want to wish Giorgia McAllister Forte the very best of luck as she launches Monforte Viennoiserie in Carlton North, Melbourne, Australia, this week.

Giorgia trained as a Patisserie Chef with Mark Hix in London and worked with Clare Ptak at Violet Cakes in East London, before she moved to Melbourne five years ago. Her new company, Monforte Viennoiserie, will be a pasticceria that creates European-inspired pastries and jams, thus carrying the family baking genes across the world to the benefit of all those fortunate Melburnians.

Giorgia is the younger daughter of Giovanna Forte and Ken McAllister, and a granddaughter of the late Nino and Luisa Forte from Brighton.

Best of luck, Giorgia!
