Josie Forte

Many people will be so very sad to hear the news that Josie Forte passed away this morning in Ireland, at the age of 99.

The following comes from one of her grandchildren, Dino Caira:
“Josie Forte (Giuseppina) born 1923 Belfast, second child to Domenico Delicato & Francesca Matassa, married Luigi Forte in Waterford 1944. Lived most of her married life in Belfast and then Ennis Co. Clare before returning to Mortale with Luigi. They had many happy years together until Luigi died, when Josie returned to Ireland with her children, Joseph, Lena and Frances. She died peacefully in her sleep at 3am this morning in Bray Co. Wicklow and leaves 8 Grandchildren and 11 Great Grandchildren.”

Our sincere condolences go to Joseph, Lena, Frances and all their families, as well as to all of Josie’s many nieces, nephews and extended family. She was a wonderful, kind and warm-hearted lady, who will be greatly missed by all who were lucky enough to have known her.

Farewell to Fortes in Berwick-upon-Tweed

After over 101 years serving the Berwick-upon-Tweed community, Fortes Restaurant has prepared its last meal and poured its last cappuccino, as it closed its doors for the final time last Wednesday.

Established in 1921, shortly after Carlo and Annarosa Forte emigrated from Mortale, this was the most northerly of all the Fortes catering establishments in England.    From those early days, it has remained in the same family all this time, with their son Alfredo and his wife Heather, and then their grandson, Remo and his wife Liz, taking over after them.

For over a century, a visit to Fortes of Berwick has clearly been a very special part of many people’s lives in this region. We now join many generations of happy customers to wish Remo and Liz a very happy retirement.

World Cup Champion in the Family

Congratulations to Luke Forte from Tunbridge Wells, who has recently returned from the International Taekwon-Do Federation World Cup Championships in Slovenia, having beaten 21 other competitors from 12 different countries.  In Luke’s category of Male 15 – 17 years, 4th to 1st Kup, he also won a bronze medal in sparring, but his gold medal in Special Techniques makes him World Cup Champion.

Luke is the son of Anthony and Anne Forte, and the grandson of Ralph and Elizabeth from Hastings.

We’re all proud of you, Luke!
