Mariannina Forte

It is with huge sadness that I write this post to say that our dear Aunty Mary passed away in Poole last Friday morning.  She was the youngest child of the late Alfonso and Filomena Forte, from Mortale, Kelso and Brighton, and a much loved baby sister to my father, Aquilino, and uncles John, Nino and Charles and aunt Teresa, all of whom passed away several years ago.   Born in Kelso in 1923, she moved down to the south coast in the early 1930s, when the family moved to Brighton.  She served in the Wrens during the war, and then in 1954, she married uncle Tony, also a Forte from Mortale. They had three children, and lived and managed their catering businesses in Bournemouth and Poole for many years.  Sadly, uncle Tony died young in 1971, but Aunty Mary has led a busy and independent life since then.  In retirement, she enjoyed travelling, was an avid reader, a lover of animals and a member of many clubs and local societies.

She was the dearest of aunts, warm, intelligent, funny, caring and interested in so many aspects of life.  She would always greet you with a beaming smile and an immense and loving hug, and her family, her roots and her Mortalese origins meant the world to her.

My condolences go to her children, my cousins Michael, Adrian and Anna Rosa, and to her five grandchildren too.  Your mum and nonna was one in a million and we will all miss her beyond words.

May dear Aunty Mary rest in peace.
