Luigi Cambone

It is with great sadness that we learned of the death of Luigi Cambone this morning at his care home near Gallinaro.

Born in 1913, Luigi celebrated his 105th birthday just a couple of months ago and was well known and highly respected by all who knew him.  He worked hard all his life, and throughout maintained a level headed approach to everything that he did.  His simple, uncomplicated lifestyle was one that I admired hugely.  In this crazy, throwaway, materialistic world, in which so many rely on social media and technology, Luigi brought us back down to earth, reminding us of the real and true values in life.  For him, the important things were focused on the land, family, friends, animals, history and faith.

He was an absolute legend of a man, and it was an honour and a privilege to have known such a true, honest and quietly inspirational person.  He will never be forgotten and I hope that his legacy will be to remind us all of what is really important in life.

So sorry to hear the sad news. Luigi was a link to my past as he remembered my grandparents on both my mother and father’s side. I feel privileged to have spoken to him again recently at his birthday party. Our sincere condolences to his family.

So sad to hear the news . Loving condolences to all his family. Luigi was part of my childhood, a stable presence, a dear family friend and in later life an instructor on what was important in life. Always generous in sharing his knowledge and produce. He was wise, caring and a man who whenever I think of him made me smile. He possessed great inner strength and calm and was an example to all of us on what was important in life. It was a real privilege knowing him. Rest in peace dear Luigi.
