Farewell to Fortes in Berwick-upon-Tweed

After over 101 years serving the Berwick-upon-Tweed community, Fortes Restaurant has prepared its last meal and poured its last cappuccino, as it closed its doors for the final time last Wednesday.

Established in 1921, shortly after Carlo and Annarosa Forte emigrated from Mortale, this was the most northerly of all the Fortes catering establishments in England.    From those early days, it has remained in the same family all this time, with their son Alfredo and his wife Heather, and then their grandson, Remo and his wife Liz, taking over after them.

For over a century, a visit to Fortes of Berwick has clearly been a very special part of many people’s lives in this region. We now join many generations of happy customers to wish Remo and Liz a very happy retirement.

Monforte Viennoiserie launches soon

I’m sure that the whole of the extended Forte family will want to wish Giorgia McAllister Forte the very best of luck as she launches Monforte Viennoiserie in Carlton North, Melbourne, Australia, this week.

Giorgia trained as a Patisserie Chef with Mark Hix in London and worked with Clare Ptak at Violet Cakes in East London, before she moved to Melbourne five years ago. Her new company, Monforte Viennoiserie, will be a pasticceria that creates European-inspired pastries and jams, thus carrying the family baking genes across the world to the benefit of all those fortunate Melburnians.

Giorgia is the younger daughter of Giovanna Forte and Ken McAllister, and a granddaughter of the late Nino and Luisa Forte from Brighton.

Best of luck, Giorgia!
